Upon the birth of Kamei, their first daughter, her parents gave her a unique special name. It's meaning in Hawaiian and Japanese is divine, heavenly, eternal.
Kamei grew up and was educated in Petah Tikva. She attended the Dr. Y. Shifer state elementary school and in the F. Rashish Junior high in the city and was an outstanding student.
In her highschool years, her family moved to Rosh Ha'ayin, where Kamei attended the "Begin High School", majoring in medicine, which she graduated with honors.
Kamei loved to dance, she was a student at a dance studio from the age of five until high school. She was a beautiful, smart girl, always wearing a smile, with a great sense of humor and perceived as "the class joker". Her rolling laugh was her trademark.
Kamei had a lifemate, a fighter in the 202nd paratrooper unit.
Kamei was supposed to celebrate her 19th birthday a week after her fall.
Kamei joined the IDF on February 16, 2023. Her personal stats qualified her for positions in elite units, including airforce pilot, intelligence and navy captain positions. From this array of opportunities, Kamei decided to become a fighter. After being drafted into the Navy, she chose to serve as a fighter in the "Snapir" special unit.
Kamei saw the military service as a calling to protect Israeli citizens and was thrilled to combine this mission with her love for the sea. Upon her enlistment, she wrote: "The sea, the place where the breaking of the waves is the only noise, a comforting place that allows me to vent all my emotions, reminds me every time why I chose to serve in the army." Kamei fell during an operational activity in the maritime territory on the northern border near the Lebanese border as a result of a technical malfunction in IDF combat equipment. During the malfunction, seven other fighters were injured.
Kamei adored army life and always said: "If you have to die, might as well do it in the army".
Kamei's joy of life was a model for inspiration and admiration. She used to say that a person should make the best of every day given to him, since every day that passes will not return.
Values of giving, free love and helping others were always perceived in high regard by Kamei. She volunteered to help children with special needs. She also visited a Holocaust survivor once a week and helped him buy groceries.
Kami loved to surf and the sea was an inseparable part of her.
Kamei's friends say that she was always willing to help others, lend an ear and give advice. She was very friendly and made everyone laugh.
They also say that she was an overachiever, used to set goals and objectives for herself and strove to achieve them. However, she was careful not to turn her achievement into a competition so as not to hurt anyone else.
At the Begin School, they paid tribute to Kamei: "The Begin High School family mourns, bows its head and shares the deep sorrow of the Achiel family in the heavy mourning on Kamei's fall, a Begin High School graduate, class of 2018. The school staff and students are grieving and hug the family. May her memory be blessed."
At the Beilinson hospital where Kamei's mother works, they published a statement following her fall: "The Beilinson family hugs and share the pain of Karin Achiel , a dedicated worker in the security department, for the loss of her daughter, the late Corporal Kamei Achiel. May her memory be blessed."
